Pioneering journey
Nexira’s roots can be traced back to 1895 when Charles Dondain established a trading company for natural ingredients in Marseille. From this adventurous beginning, it was the exceptional properties of acacia gum that captured our attention and drove bold strategic decisions to deepen our knowledge and extend our reach. Forward-thinking investment in dedicated R&D, advanced gum purification and separation technology, and opening what would become the world’s largest acacia gum processing facility helped to secure our position on the global stage.
At the same time, we have always been open and alert to new opportunities , forging new partnerships and purposeful acquisitions to strengthen our business – both in terms of operational effectiveness, and the scale and scope of our ingredient portfolio. This has seen us not only expand production of acacia to meet rising demand in international markets, but also diversify our offer to include plant extracts, antioxidants, dietary soluble fibers, and active botanicals. Positive developments that have allowed us to explore exciting new possibilities for our natural solutions in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and dietary supplement sectors.

Our founder’s free-thinking spirit is woven into our modern organization. Encouraging a growth mindset gives us the space to create a dynamic environment for ideas, discoveries, and developments to thrive. This has led to many exciting ingredient innovations over the years, such as our flagship Fibregum ™ – an all-natural, GMO-free, prebiotic ingredient with proven benefits for gut health and overall wellbeing. And that’s not all.
It was Nexira’s concerted campaign and rigorous scientific studies that proved instrumental in the FDA’s approval of acacia gum as a ‘dietary fiber’ in 2021 – lifting a six-year suspension and paving the way for growth in the United States and beyond.
We were also the first acacia supplier to launch a carbon neutral acacia fiber range with our inavea™ brand. A groundbreaking achievement that put us well ahead of our competitors and marked a major milestone for Nexira’s low-carbon strategy.
And we’ve never been constrained by traditional frameworks, preferring to create new ways of working that align with our values and benefit both people and planet. By putting sustainable and secure sourcing methods at the heart of our business for over 50 years, we have established a responsible supply network where economic and social development goes hand in hand with environmental protections.
